(The Bravest Boy I Know)이 비치되고 있다.

On 15th of December, 2015, the event of commemoration of 2015 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet was held by Tunisian Embassy in Korea at Korea Press Center in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The organization won 2015 Nobel Peace Prize for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution of 2011.

UNWTO ST-EP Foundation Attends the 100th session of UNWTO Executive Council
27th to 29th of May, 2015 – Rovinj, Republic of Croatia

The 100th session of UNWTO Executive Council, was held from 27th to 29th of May of this year in Rovinj, Republic of Croatia. Amb. Dho Young-shim, Chairperson of UNWTO ST-EP Foundation and UN MDGs Advocate, attended this session together with nearly 300 tourism officials and experts and representatives from about 40 countries, including Secretary-General Taleb Rifai and 8 tourism ministers (Argentina, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Jamaica, South Africa, Gambia and Zimbabwe).

During its session, UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai mentioned “the number of foreign tourists globally was expected to continue to grow this year, by four percent from the 1.14 billion who travelled in 2014. It depends on all of us in world tourism, on our cooperation, networking, sustainable tourism policies and incentives whether we will view those billion tourists as an opportunity and obtain positive effects or something opposite.”

The UNWTO also addressed tourism generates 9% of the world gross domestic product (GDP) (direct, indirect and induced), accounts for 30% of service exports and one in every 11 jobs. However, in 2013 a mere 0.08% of all ODA funding (192 million USD) was allocated to the tourism sector. With such imbalances between the importance of tourism in the global economy and Global Aid-for-Trade vis-á-vis the amount of ODA allocated to tourism development activities, the Executive Council decided to create the Working Group on ODA.

Visit to Vietnam to Congratulate on Progress towards UN’s MDG on Invitation from H.E. Erna Solberg

Visit to Vietnam to Congratulate on Progress towards UN’s MDG
on Invitation from H.E. Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway

Socialist Republic of Vietnam – 18th of April, 2015

On the occasion of a high-level seminar in Hanoi, Vietnam for accelerating affiliation in realizing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and working out Sustainable Development Goalds in post-2015, Amb. Dho visited Lao Chai Primary School, Lao Cai Community Health Centre and Compassion House in Sa Pa and Lao Cai on invitation from H.E. Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway.

Lao Chai Primary School was supported by UNICEF with Norwegian funding through a project in which H’mong children first learn to read and write the H’mong language and then later switch over to Vietnamese. The results indicate that this is extremely effective, and the ethnic minority children who receive a bilingual education score better in all subjects than ethnic minority children who begin directly with Vietnamese education. In fact, many do better than the majority population. Lao Cai Community Health Center is a place where malnourished children are treated, and where vaccinations and maternal health services are provided. Compassion House in Lao Cai is for children victims of human trafficking. Those three remarkable places where the UN MDGs Advocacy Group visited have shown good results for the Millennium Development Goals. Members of UN MDGs Advocacy Group said there is, however, still work to be done with one voice during their visit.

One of the key reasons for UN MDGs Advocacy Group’s three-day visit (from April 16th-18th) to Vietnam is to advocate for continued efforts to achieve the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals and to discuss those that will replace them after 2015 – the new Sustainable Development Goals.
